I am the fiery Raselia, the cascading waterfall of color. My delicate, trailing stems adorned with vibrant tubular red or orange flowers create a dramatic, hummingbird-friendly spectacle that drips beautifully from hanging baskets, walls, and containers.
I am a tender, fast-growing perennial often grown as an annual, prized for my profuse, brilliantly colored blooms and elegant weeping habit that adds a "spiller" element to any planting.
Native to Mexico and Central America; cultivated as a popular ornamental in gardens and containers in warm climates and greenhouses.
Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Requires more frequent watering in hot, sunny conditions, especially in containers.
Prefers full sun to partial shade. Blooms most abundantly with at least 4-6 hours of direct sun.
Thrives in 18-27°C; sensitive to frost and will not tolerate freezing temperatures.
Plant in rich, well-draining potting mix; space 30-45 cm apart if in ground, or use as a solo specimen in hanging baskets.
Feed every 2-3 weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer to support continuous flowering.
Botanical name: Russelia equisetiformis; Common names: Firecracker Plant, Coral Plant, Fountain Plant; Family: Plantaginaceae.
Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Low to Moderate; contributes to general garden air quality and is highly attractive to beneficial pollinators.
Provides an exceptionally long blooming season; a top choice for attracting hummingbirds and butterflies; perfect for adding vertical interest and vibrant color to hanging displays and slopes.
Can become leggy if light is insufficient; relatively pest-free but watch for aphids or whiteflies; root rot in poorly drained soil.
Perennial in zones 9-11; often grown as an annual elsewhere. Can live for several years, with stems trailing or arching up to 0.9-1.5 meters long.
