I am the vigorous Lentana, the kaleidoscope of the summer garden. My cheerful clusters of multi-colored flowers that change hue as they mature, and my rough-textured leaves, create a vibrant, ever-changing tapestry that attracts life and color from spring until frost.
I am a fast-growing, sun-loving perennial shrub, often grown as an annual in cooler climates, famous for my continuous bloom and color-changing flowers.
Native to tropical regions of the Americas and Africa; now a common ornamental in warm climates worldwide.
Water regularly to establish, then moderately; drought-tolerant once mature but blooms best with consistent moisture.
Requires full sun for maximum flowering; may become leggy and bloom less in shade.
Thrives in 21-32°C; intolerant of frost.
Plant in well-drained soil; space 30-60 cm apart as they can spread aggressively.
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring and mid-summer to support non-stop blooming.
Botanical name: Lantana camara; Family: Verbenaceae.
Toxic to cats, dogs, horses, and livestock. All parts, especially unripe berries, are poisonous if ingested.
Low to Moderate; contributes to general garden ecology and may repel some insects.
Extremely long blooming season; attracts butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds profusely; excellent for hot, dry beds, containers, and ground cover.
Can be invasive in warm climates; susceptible to whiteflies, spider mites, and powdery mildew.
Perennial in zones 7-11; treated as an annual elsewhere. Can live for several years, growing 0.3-1.8 meters tall and wide, depending on variety.
