Hello, shade seeker! I am the Peltophorum, your majestic and generous flowering tree known for my spreading canopy and brilliant yellow blooms. Often called the "Yellow Flame Tree" or "Copper Pod," I am a spectacular sight when in full flower, creating a golden canopy that provides wonderful shade and beauty to parks, streets, and large gardens.
I am a large, fast-growing deciduous tree with a broad, spreading crown that provides excellent shade.
My feathery, bipinnate leaves give me a fine, fern-like texture.
During summer, I produce magnificent clusters of bright yellow flowers that cover my canopy in a golden haze.
After flowering, I develop copper-colored seed pods that give me one of my common names—"Copper Pod."
I am native to tropical Southeast Asia, but I have adapted beautifully to the Indian climate and am widely planted across the country.
I am drought-tolerant once established, but appreciate regular watering during my first few years.
Water me deeply once a week during dry periods.
Mature trees can generally survive on seasonal rainfall.
I thrive in full, direct sunlight.
I need at least 6-8 hours of direct sun daily to grow strong and flower profusely.
I prefer warm, tropical to subtropical climates between 20°C and 35°C.
I can tolerate higher temperatures but may struggle in prolonged frost.
Choose a spacious location—I need plenty of room to spread my wide canopy.
I'm not fussy about soil but prefer well-draining conditions.
Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and plant me at the same depth.
Water thoroughly after planting and stake young trees if needed.
Apply mulch around my base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Prune only to remove dead or damaged branches in the dormant season.
I'm not a heavy feeder. A balanced slow-release fertilizer applied in spring can support my growth.
Compost or well-rotted manure around my base annually is usually sufficient.
Scientific Name: Peltophorum pterocarpum
Common Names: Yellow Flame Tree, Copper Pod, Rusty Shield Bearer
Plant Family: Fabaceae (Legume family)

I am generally considered non-toxic, but it's always wise to prevent pets from chewing on any plant parts.
As a large tree, I'm excellent at improving air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen, and trapping dust particles.
Provides excellent shade with my wide-spreading canopy
Stunning floral display in summer
Fast-growing and relatively low maintenance
Improves soil quality through nitrogen fixation
Excellent for avenue planting and large landscapes
Leaf spot - Fungal issues in humid conditions
Caterpillars - May occasionally feed on my leaves
