I am a bold and dramatic tropical foliage plant, admired for my large, arrow-shaped leaves with striking veins and a glossy or matte finish. Commonly known as Alocasia or Elephant Ear Plant, my leaves often appear sculpted, giving me a luxurious and exotic presence that instantly elevates any indoor or outdoor space.
I am a tropical ornamental plant with large, arrow-shaped leaves and bold veins. My foliage is my main attraction, making me a centerpiece in homes and gardens.
Native to tropical Asia and eastern Australia, I am now cultivated worldwide as a houseplant.
I prefer consistently moist soil but not waterlogged. Overwatering causes root rot, while underwatering leads to drooping leaves.
I thrive in bright, indirect light. Direct sun scorches my leaves, while low light slows growth.
I flourish in warm climates between 20–30°C with high humidity. I am sensitive to cold drafts and frost.
Plant me in well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. Indoors, I need humidity trays or misting. Outdoors, I thrive in shaded beds.
Feed me with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding in winter.
Botanical name: Alocasia spp. Family: Araceae. There are ~90 species, including Alocasia macrorrhizos and Alocasia amazonica.
I am toxic to pets and humans if ingested due to calcium oxalate crystals. Keep me out of reach.
Moderate; I help improve indoor air quality but my main value is ornamental.
I provide dramatic foliage, tropical ambiance, and indoor decoration. I am a collector’s favorite for exotic plant displays.
I am prone to spider mites, aphids, and fungal leaf spot. Low humidity causes leaf browning.
I can live for many years indoors with proper care, producing new leaves regularly during warm seasons.
