I am a bold and colorful foliage plant, famous for my thick, glossy leaves splashed with vibrant shades of green, yellow, red, orange, and purple. Commonly known as Kodium (Croton), I instantly brighten any space with my dramatic leaf patterns and tropical look. My upright growth and striking colors make me a true statement plant.
I am a vibrant and popular ornamental shrub known for my bold, leathery leaves that display a stunning mix of colors, including greens, yellows, reds, oranges, and purples, often with unique variegation, streaks, or patterns.
I am native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Pacific Islands, and have been widely cultivated as a decorative plant in warm climates worldwide.
I prefer consistently moist soil during the growing season, but I do not like to sit in water. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings.
I thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. Some direct morning sun enhances my leaf color, but too much harsh sun can scorch my leaves.
I grow best in warm, humid conditions between 18°C to 30°C. I am sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
Plant me in well-draining, fertile potting mix. I can be grown in containers or garden beds in frost-free climates, with spacing of about 60–90 cm between plants.
I respond well to a balanced liquid fertilizer applied once a month during the spring and summer growing season.
Botanical name: Codiaeum variegatum (commonly known as Croton). Family: Euphorbiaceae. "Kodium" is a common local or variant name for this plant.
I am toxic to pets if ingested. My sap can cause mouth irritation, drooling, vomiting, or diarrhea in cats and dogs. Keep me out of their reach.
Moderate; I help improve indoor air quality by absorbing certain pollutants like formaldehyde through my leaves.
I add striking, long-lasting color to gardens and indoor spaces, act as an eye-catching focal point, and are relatively low-maintenance in suitable environments.
I am susceptible to spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects, especially in dry indoor air. Leaf drop may occur due to overwatering, low humidity, or sudden environmental changes.
I can live for several years as a perennial in tropical climates. Indoors, with proper care, I may thrive for 5–10 years or more.
