I am a beautiful trailing succulent, admired for my long, cascading stems densely packed with plump, teardrop-shaped leaves in soft blue-green tones. Commonly known as Burro’s Tail or Donkey Tail, I create a dramatic waterfall effect when grown in hanging baskets or elevated pots, making me a favorite for indoor décor and balconies.
I am a charming, trailing succulent known for my long, hanging stems densely packed with plump, blue-green, bean-shaped leaves that resemble a braided donkey’s tail.
I am native to southern Mexico and Honduras, where I grow on rocky cliffs and dry hillsides in warm, arid environments.
I prefer infrequent but deep watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot. Water sparingly in winter.
I thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. Some direct morning sun is beneficial, but intense afternoon sun can scorch my leaves.
I grow best in temperatures between 15°C to 26°C. I am sensitive to frost and prolonged cold below 7°C.
Plant me in well-draining cactus or succulent soil in a hanging basket or container with drainage holes. Handle gently—my leaves fall off easily.
I respond well to a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer applied once at the beginning of the growing season (spring). Avoid over-fertilizing.
Botanical name: Sedum morganianum. Family: Crassulaceae. I am also commonly called Donkey’s Tail or Burro's Tail.
I am mildly toxic to pets if ingested. My sap can cause vomiting or diarrhea in cats and dogs. Keep me out of their reach.
Low; as a succulent, I contribute modestly to indoor air quality by releasing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide at night.
I add unique texture and trailing beauty to indoor and outdoor spaces, require minimal care, and are excellent for xeriscaping or water-wise gardens.
I am prone to leaf drop if handled roughly. Overwatering leads to root rot. Mealybugs and aphids may occasionally infest my stems.
I am a long-lived perennial. With proper care, I can thrive and grow longer over many years, often living 5–10+ years indoors or in suitable climates.
