I am a revered and symbolic flowering shrub, celebrated for my stunning, large blossoms in shades of red, pink, white, or variegated colors. Known as the Chinese Rose or the "Queen of Flowers" in many cultures, I am admired for my lush, layered petals and long blooming season, often representing love, beauty, and prosperity. I am a popular choice for gardens, festivals, and decorative displays due to my vibrant and elegant appearance.

Native to East Asia, especially China, where I have been cultivated for over a thousand years. I hold a significant place in Chinese culture, art, and literature, and I am the official flower of several cities in China. I have since spread to gardens worldwide, especially in temperate and subtropical regions.

I prefer consistent moisture. Water me deeply when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal issues. During hot or dry spells, I may need more frequent watering. Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogging.

I thrive in full sun to light partial shade. At least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily is ideal for abundant blooms. Too much shade can lead to fewer flowers and leggy growth.

I flourish in moderate climates, preferring temperatures between 15°C to 25°C. I can tolerate some heat but may struggle in extreme summer temperatures. I am also somewhat cold-hardy and can survive mild winters with protection.

Plant me in well-draining, fertile, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Space plants about 1–1.5 meters apart to ensure good air circulation. Mulching helps retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Feed me with a balanced fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring to autumn). A bloom-booster fertilizer higher in phosphorus can encourage more vibrant and plentiful flowers. Avoid fertilizing in winter.

Botanical name: Rosa chinensis. Family: Rosaceae. I am one of the ancestors of many modern hybrid tea roses and floribunda roses. I am known for my repeat flowering ability and contribution to rose breeding worldwide.

I am generally considered non-toxic to pets, though thorns can cause physical injury. Ingestion of large amounts of petals or leaves may lead to mild stomach upset in some animals.

Low to moderate. While I contribute to outdoor air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide, I am not typically recognized as a strong indoor air purifier. My value lies more in aesthetic and emotional well-being.

I am widely grown for ornamental and cultural purposes. I am used in perfumes, traditional medicine, and culinary applications (rose water, teas). I also attract pollinators like bees and butterflies to the garden.

Susceptible to aphids, spider mites, black spot, and powdery mildew. Yellowing leaves may indicate overwatering, nutrient deficiencies, or poor soil drainage. Prune regularly to improve air circulation and health.

I can live for many years, often 10–15 or more with proper care. I am a perennial shrub that blooms repeatedly from late spring through autumn, especially in favorable climates.
