All Details
I am Broken Heart, the heartleaf philodendron. My trailing vines carry glossy green leaves shaped like hearts, sometimes split like broken ones. I thrive indoors, bringing beauty, calm, and cleaner air to homes and offices.
I am a tropical ornamental vine with heart-shaped leaves that symbolize love and resilience. My foliage sometimes develops splits, giving me the name “Broken Heart,” and I am prized for indoor decoration.
Native to Central and South America, I am widely cultivated as a houseplant across the world. I adapt easily to indoor conditions and thrive in warm, humid climates.
I prefer moderate watering, allowing the topsoil to dry slightly before the next cycle. Overwatering can cause root rot, while underwatering may lead to leaf curling and browning.
I grow best in bright, indirect light indoors. Direct sun can scorch my leaves, while low light slows my growth but I remain tolerant.
I flourish in 20–30°C and enjoy humidity. I am sensitive to cold drafts and frost, so I should be kept indoors in cooler regions.
Plant me in well-draining potting soil with organic matter. I can be grown in hanging baskets, pots, or trained on supports for vertical growth.
Feed me with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season. Too much fertilizer can damage my roots, so moderation is key.
Botanical name: Philodendron scandens (syn. Philodendron hederaceum). Family: Araceae. I am closely related to Monstera and other philodendrons.
I am toxic to cats and dogs if ingested due to calcium oxalate crystals. Keep me out of reach of pets.
I am an excellent indoor air purifier, removing toxins like formaldehyde and improving indoor air quality.
I provide ornamental beauty, trailing greenery, and air purification. My heart-shaped leaves symbolize love, making me a favorite gift plant.
I may suffer from yellowing leaves due to overwatering, pest attacks from mealybugs or aphids, and slow growth in poor light.
I can live for decades indoors with proper care, continuously producing new vines and leaves.
