I’m a sacred, drought-tolerant tree with slender leaves, known for resilience, shade, and traditional medicinal uses.
I’m a sacred evergreen tree known for my resilience in arid climates and my deep cultural significance in Hindu traditions. Revered as a symbol of prosperity and devotion, I’m often associated with Lord Shiva and Lord Shani.
Native to Southern Asia, especially India and the Arabian Peninsula, I thrive in desert and semi-arid regions where few other trees can survive
I’m highly drought-tolerant and require minimal watering once established. During my early growth, occasional deep watering helps me develop strong roots.
I flourish in full sun and open landscapes. My hardy nature allows me to withstand intense heat and dry conditions.
I thrive in hot climates, tolerating temperatures above 30°C. I’m well adapted to desert conditions and can survive extreme heat
Plant me in sandy or loamy soil with good drainage. I grow deep roots that stabilize soil and prevent erosion. Space me generously, as I can grow into a large shade tree.
I don’t demand much feeding. Organic compost during early growth supports healthy establishment, but mature trees thrive naturally in poor soils.
Genus: Prosopis Species: Prosopis cineraria Family: Fabaceae Order: Fabales Type: Evergreen desert tree
Generally non-toxic to pets. My pods and leaves are used as fodder for cattle in rural areas
I improve soil fertility by fixing nitrogen and provide shade that cools the environment. My presence helps reduce desertification.
I offer medicinal properties, fodder for livestock, and timber for rural communities. Spiritually, I’m considered auspicious in Vastu Shastra and worshipped during festivals like Dussehra
I’m hardy, but young plants may suffer from poor germination or pest attacks. Proper care during establishment ensures long-term survival.
I can live for decades, often exceeding 50–100 years, standing as a resilient guardian in harsh landscapes
