All Details

I am Zamia zamifolia, the ancient architectural gem. My glossy, feather-like dark green fronds rise with symmetrical perfection from a stout trunk, embodying the timeless, sculptural beauty of cycads that have graced the earth since the age of dinosaurs.

I am a slow-growing, perennial cycad, valued for my palm-like appearance, incredibly tough nature, and prehistoric lineage, making me a prized specimen for xeriscaping and tropical-themed landscapes.

Native to Eastern Africa (specifically, Kenya and Tanzania); cultivated in arid and tropical gardens worldwide.

Water deeply but infrequently. Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Extremely drought-tolerant and prone to rot with overwatering.

Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Tolerates intense sun once established.

Prefers warm to hot climates (20-35°C); sensitive to frost and prolonged cold.

Plant in very well-drained, sandy or gritty soil. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent caudex (trunk) rot.

Feed sparingly with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer once or twice during the growing season.

Botanical name: Encephalartos ferox (Note: "Zamia zamifolia" is often a common misnomer for Zamioculcas zamiifolia - ZZ Plant, but true Zamia is a different genus. This template assumes the true cycad, Zamia sp.). Family: Zamiaceae.

Highly toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested. All parts contain cycasin, which can cause liver failure and is potentially fatal.

Low; primarily valued for ornamental and architectural qualities rather than air purification.

Provides a striking, low-maintenance, drought-tolerant focal point; excellent for rock gardens and water-wise landscapes; a living fossil with high ornamental value.

Root and caudex rot from overwatering or poor drainage; scale insects and mealybugs can be an issue; very slow growth rate.

Extremely long-lived; can live for decades or even centuries. Grows slowly to 1-2 meters tall and wide.

Everyday 8:30AM to 6:30PM
